The cetcolor package (CRAN, GitHub) is designed to bring to R the 56 colour maps created by Peter Kovesi, a part-time research fellow with the Geophysics and Image Analysis group within the Centre for Exploration Targeting in the School of Earth and Environment at The University of Western Australia. These colour maps are special as they avoid points of locally high colour contrast, which leads to the perception of false anomalies in your data when there are none. To avoid this phenomenon, the colour maps have been designed to have a uniform perceptual contrast over their whole range.

Within the v0.2.0 release, the colour maps have been updated to the latest release by Peter Kovesi in May 2018. Previously, the package used the color maps released in June 2016. The main benefit is the addition of new colour maps for attributes: linear (L16-L19) and divergent (D1A and D13). Furthermore, this release includes updates to how colour maps are called. The new reference system uses short names for instead of the long names that specified how colour map was created. Furthermore, Peter has also created a new set of colour maps for the colour blind.

For details on the new colour maps, naming scheme change, and deprecations, see the release notes found below. Otherwise, feel free to admire the 56 colour maps:
